Katie & Dragonfly Yoga Barn

Katie O’Connell, E-RYT and owner of Dragonfly Yoga Barn,  is a fun-loving yogi known for busting out a blues-grass song with her band Sweet Life, eating copious amounts of dark chocolate, and can be found doing yoga in the forest, on a rock, in a river, on a mountaintop…well, you get the idea. Katie has always been fascinated by dragonflies–their ability to transform, catch the wind, maneuver spirals and water dips with such grace, always shining irridescent in the sunlight, thus they have become our studio symbol.

Katie is an Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher (E-RYT), who has been practicing yoga for 15 years and teaching yoga for 9 of those years. Katie has completed nearly 400 hours of study with primary teachers including Paula Tursi, Cora Wen, and Sudha Lundeen.  Other influential teachers Katie include Patricia Walden, Natasha Rizopoulis, Rodney Yee, Baron Baptiste, Shiva Rea, and Judith Lasater.

Katie is happy to offer training to aspiring yoga teachers with Co-Director Melissa Scagliarini, E-RYT through their RYS, Vidya Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Training Program.

Melissa Scagliarini, E-RYT is a veteran instructor with over 10 years of teaching experience, including an in-depth 500-hr. training with the Himalayan Institute in India during the winter of 2010. Melissa is well-known in the Lakes Region for her dynamic Vinyasa Flow classes which combine sequences to build strength and physical awareness with a focus on breath and overall wellbeing. The addition of a new baby last March keeps Melissa busy in her “spare” time, and now that he is nearly a year old, her home practice often includes incorporating Lucian into the poses (very entertaining!)  Melissa’s warm, good-natured personality paired with her challenging Ashtanga- inspired yoga classes are bound to leave you feeling grounded, energized, and well cared for in your practice.

Leslie JoseARMT:  Peace of Mind Reiki, Karuna Usui Tibetan Reiki Master Healer and Teacher.  Offering Reiki healing, monthly “Reiki Share,”  as well as workshops & trainings at Dragonfly and other locations, Leslie is held in high esteem as a local wise woman for her knowledge of Reiki healing, ability to teach and share her knowledge of traditional Reiki wisdom, and for her love of nature, the healing qualities of stones, sound therapy, and sooooo much more.  Call for an appointment or to learn more about Leslie’s training programs: (603) 284-7124

Sharon BorggarrdTai Chi: A former physical therapist and teacher, Sharon is now a Tai Chi Instructor and student of Master Kai Ying Tung for 14 years.  She is also certified in Matrix Energetics and Acupressure and offers sessions and classes at her studio in Holderness, NH. Sharon is now offering Tai Chi at Dragonfly!  Tai Chi  is a system of movements, focus and breath that calms the mind, energizes the body and creates physical and mental wellness.  It may be slow as in Qi Gung (standing in one position) or slow set( a series of 108 movements).  It may be aerobic as in fast set.  It may incorporate extensions of self as in weapons that include knife, sword, sticks, and fan. Tai chi is not goal oriented and there is always one more time.  The emphasis is on the present moment and the body’s capacity to transform to an expanded awareness, and a strong, balanced, connected being.

Chele Miller,  Naturalist, Trailguide & Tracker:  Chele enjoys sharing the outdoors with people of all ages and backgrounds.  She leads hikes, tracking expeditions, and is always honing her skills at learning birdcalls of our local feathered friends, as well as following the prints of all kinds of animals, from elusive wild cats and moose, to coyotes and raccoons.  Let us know if you would enjoy a group hike or a mini expedition to check out the local flora and fauna of Sandwich!

Beth Day, LMT:  Beth is a gifted massage therapist who offers appointments at Dragonfly as well as in your own home.  Beth is happy to offer her marvelous massage hands during group retreats and for private clients.     Wow! The website looks great and the place in real life is even greater. I’ve taken classes in the past at the yoga barn and fully enjoyed the experience. Katie is an exceptional yoga teacher who brings calm with a soothing and confident voice and a demeanor that exudes tranquility and skill. I am looking forward to more classes at this beautiful and very special place filled with wonderful people. Thank you.
